Kirra by Aurella Kirra by Aurella
This was a commissioned piece by a fantastic customer. I was so happy to work with her because she knew exactly what she wanted. It was great to be able to work with someone else's vision for a change. Pretty much everything in this painting is something that aws requested, down to the color of the items. So it's as much her creation as it is mine!

Obviously the original is not up for sale, however a first edition hand embellished ACEO print is up for auction on eBay. =) [link]

Thanks so much for looking

Aww thank you!! I'm so glad you think so! This was a really fun one to do, because I probably would never have done this piece if it wasn't commissioned. I prefer outdoor scenes, but ever since I did this one I'm craving to do some more indoor ones!

Thank you! I'm so glad you think so. That was one of the scariest things while working on this piece was how on earth to fit in all of the items she requested without making it look too cluttered or overdone. I really appreciate your kind words!

Lol aww thank you!! And I meant to write this in my initial posting to you, but....did you see the salt technique on the background?!?! I finally did it!!! Lol...I was thinking you when I was doing the salt thing and all the tips you gave me, and it worked, so THANK YOU!! I think my problem was way too much water. It seemed like if I got it just barely moist it worked a lot better. You are the best!

Lol I totally noticed the salt technique, I remember thinking "ooh that looks good" but for some reason I forgot our conversations about it. I looks REALLY good, I'm so happy it finally worked! Ugh, the amount of water you need is always my downfall, so I'm glad you got the perfect amount!

Thank you!! I ink the painting first in brown ink and then follow up with just plain watercolor. I did have to use some white gouache and white acrylic paint on this one though to create the spell effects and the lighting on the candles. I also sometimes add metallic inks at the end like I did on the stars for this one. =)

Ohhh brown ink! That's why it looks so different :) The acrylic looks very nice on top of your watercolors, really makes it stand out. Too bad the metallic ink doesn't show up on the scanner (at least not on my monitor). I'll use my imagination!

Keep it up!!!

Thank you!! I will try. =) I discovered brown ink awhile ago. I think it still creates a nice clean look, but is not as harsh as black ink. And thanks for the comments about the acrylic! I was terrified to use it lol...I need acrylic lessons!

You love Halloween the most don't you?
I say this because you have suck a strike of
life put into these pieces around this time last year that originally caught my eye to your artwork..
the colors, the detail, it has a charm to it that your other work doesn't seem to keep.. well now keep in mind i love all your works, however the Halloween themed pieces seems to hold a more eye-catching gaze from me. :D

You caught me...I love Halloween lol!! I've always loved Halloween ever since I was a child and it continues to be my favorite holiday! And I agree, I also feel an energy in my Halloween pieces that I just can't quite seem to capture in my other pieces. The witchy pieces just come together with very little effort whereas I have to work at the fairies and the mermaids a little more. Thank you for your comments!

what a fun and festive piece! The color palette is quite lovely, and unusual for this genre. I especially love the two windows, each one contains a very lovely vignette, and the left one, withthe wee owl, is particularly good. Very well done=)

I really appreciate that!! I think that's what I try most to do in my witch paintings is to make them feel light, cheerful, happy, sassy, spunky etc... instead of making them look dark and morbid. =)
